This is the first event-based ride I have attended in Kerala. It is a short endurance cycling event conducted by Cyclothon club about creating awareness about glaucoma, which is a vision related problem organized by Precise Eye Foundations.
The flyer for event was said to start by 6 am in the morning. I was confused to attend as I may not reach there by 6 without getting a gatepass from the instituion to leave before 5 am. Luckily, Robin, the one who introduced me to the NDD group, was participated in this event last year. He told that the actual cycling event will start past 7 am. Aditya was also registered for the event but he was unable to come.
I left the campus by around 5:45 am and met Robin at Chullimanoor. We headed towards the event place, which is in the city center at a place named Kakakkakunnu Junction. We reached there, collected our t-shirts and met many riders across the city.
There I met Abilash, another NDD rider who knows about my last inter-state ride. I also introduced to other riders in the group, and happy to see many riders starting from kids to experienced ones.
We left to ride along with others around 7:30 am to the destination, which is Shangumugam beach. On the way, some small accidents happened to others, in which a lady rider fell and got hurt in her knees. Despite that, she completed the ride. Robin told that she is from Army.
We reached Shangumugam beach, got our medals and refreshments, took photos and left to return. During return ride, we came through another route to cross the Karakulam bridge construction by walk. While going also, we went through yet another route by walk and descent.
The total ride was about 70 kms. It was fun. Below are the photos and videos taken during the event and ride.
Below is the Strava log of this ride.
