My Guitar Journey

I love music. There are many tamil songs that has good melody touch in them, like all songs from the movie Paiya composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and more. During my childhood days when I used to go to school in 1st and 2nd grades, I will be picked up by a school bus, in which they play the trending songs at that time. I liked those songs and many others that happen to have some common connection till now.

The main connection was the guitar tunes. Second main connection is, most of the songs that reached my heart are from the famous Yuvan Shankar Raja. Many songs from his father, Ilaya Raja, were also became my favourites. Most of Yuvan’s songs have guitar tunes in them, and many songs composed by Ilayaraja can be played beautifuly with guitar.

This made me to dream of playing guitar, but I delayed trying it for budget reasons. I was in a mindset that all music instruments are expensive. But, luckily, I came to know that some budget friendly guitars are available and I was able to get my hands on one from Kadence which you can see on the right and in the thumbnail of this post.

Another lucky thing happened is that, this guitar came with a free course from the Kadence’s official site. That kickstarted my guitar journey. My social circle surprised that I am able to pick the skill up very fast. There are also many Youtube channels having great contents on guitar and music that supports me a lot.

Here, I will be recording of my guitar journey below.

1 Happy Birth Day

21-October-2025

This is my very first melody played with guitar. This is the first tutorial that the Kadence people offered in their course krack.ai.

I quickly mastered it and even wished my sister with this tune on her birthday. The tutorial notes are unsharable due to Kadence’s official course material, however, many youtube tutorials are available, like this one from Asher’s academy of music.

2 Shape of You Riff

24-October-2025

This is my second tune and the second tutorial offered by Kadence. It is the riff of the song “Shape of You” by Ed Sheeran. Notes are simple, but cannot be shared because it is Kadence’s paid course material.

Initial attempts created buzzing noise but later I mastered it through practice.

3 Senorita

29-October-2025

This is my third song and also the third tutorial in the Kadence’s course. It is the melody of Senorita song by Shawn Mendes. The notes involved switching between different strings and frets, which I found to be interesting and learnt it ultimately.

4 Smoke on the Water riff

03-November-2025

This is fourth tutorial on the Kadence’s course. Riff of Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple.

This is my first finger picking style song. Initially it was difficult to switch between distant frets and be on time, but later I picked it up as well.

5 Yen Iniya Pon Nilave

10-November-2025

This is the melody of my first tamil song. Credit goes to the youtube tutorials posted by Issac Thayil and Asher.

There was an easy version given above. And the more closer version given below.

6 Nenjukul Peidhidum - intro

14-November-2025

This is the melody of my second tamil song. Nenjukul Peidhidum from movie Varanam Aayiram. This further motivated me to go through the journey. The credit goes to Asher.

This is the easy version of the song, and soon the advanced version will be made.

7 Weather on you & Sing

19-November-2025

Weather on you by Crowded House and

Sing by Ed Sheeran.

These were a couple more tutorials given by the Kadence course. Here, I have been learning to strum and about forming different chords.

8 Vaseegara verse

27-November-2025

This is one of my favourite melody tunes I have tried. The credit goes to Asher. This is verse of a popular melody tamil song Vaseegara from movie Minnale.

A speciality about this particular video is that, this is the first video I posted on my Instagram account to let others know what I am upto. And it was my first post ever on Instagram, It would have been a surprise to everyone who knows me.

9 Raja raja cholan - intro

09-December-2025

This is another tune that pulled me into guitar, composed by the great Ilayaraja. The tutorial credit goes to Gopi Ganesh.

I tried fingerpicking for this as shown in the tutorial, but the music produced wasn’t loud enough to record on my phone. But will record it with fingerpicking style using the amplifier, in near future.
